Program Description

Young Champions has established itself as an innovative leader through our implementation of Safety Awareness. This concept is promoted in all classes and provides instructions in defense against strangers (ìSTRANGER DANGERî). Students are also taught awareness about their environment, safety measures against drug and gangs, water and fire safety. We also try to instill the importance of doing well in school, obeying parents and being good citizens. All this is accomplished through the motivational efforts of our instructors which include handing out a Safety Awareness Book and role playing.

One of the biggest contributions Young Champions offers is the Tournament. Our Tournaments are offered for all students in the Self-Defense program, though not mandatory. Our Tournament is geared for the students to be in a ìcontrolled environmentî where they can use the skills they have learned in a scenario that will build their self- esteem and encourage students to have the confidence to use their skills should a real life situation ever occur.

The primary objective for beginner students is to learn a ìnon-aggressiveî approach to Self-Defense. All basic self-defense techniques will be taught with the ìbreak free and runî idea. Children cannot effectively fight an adult, so students learn to ìbreak freeî from various situations and ìrun awayî from the stranger and alert those around them and/or draw attention to them.

The secondary objective for lower ranking students is to teach the formal aspects of martial arts such as basic techniques (strikes, kicks, blocks and stances).

Perfection of techniques is not required for promotional testing of lower ranks. Teaching children how to stay safe in todayís world is the objective. Trying to make students ìblack beltsî within the first year is not the objective.

In general locations Young Champions classes have a $7.00 non-refundable registration fee and each class is $7.00 a week. These prices and payments may vary by location.
